The programme is intended for applicants interested in doctoral study in Slavic Studies, Czech Studies, and German Studies, as well as in Comparative Literature and related area and cultural studies. The core of this integrated programme is cooperation with specialists at Sapienza Università di Roma; therefore, the curriculum includes a study stay in Rome and participation in joint workshops. In addition to their main supervisor, each doctoral student will be assigned a consultant at the partner university. The programme is offered in Czech as well as in German and Russian. Italian is not a compulsory language, as students make use of their subject-related language competences at the partner university according to their academic orientation.
The programme is in principle oriented toward comparative studies; therefore, the curriculum includes a requirement for basic knowledge of one of the Germanic languages, and vice versa of one of the Slavic languages (Czech is not privileged in this programme—it is regarded on the same level as other Slavic languages). English may be used as the language of communication for administrative purposes.
The topics of admitted students are diverse (ranging from linguistic taboos to comparisons of representations of Prague in Romanticism), as are the perspectives of these projects (from feminist to criminological). Both Sapienza Università di Roma and Charles University offer a wide range of experts capable of supervising these projects and providing strong academic support to doctoral students.
